| Philosophy instructor honored at ACC Posted: 10 Feb 2011 10:36 PM PST Philosophy instructor Jeff Broome has been selected as the Arapahoe Community College faculty member of the year by the ACC Faculty Senate. Broome will be recognized Feb. 9 at a State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education meeting. Broome came to ACC in 1985. During his time at the college, Broome has been instrumental in building the philosophy department. He was the primary writer of the model philosophy syllabi for many of ACC's philosophy courses and created the school's philosophy club. In addition, he pioneered a course in philosophy of religion based on the work of theologian John Hick and was one of the first faculty members to convert his classes to an online format, while also making his lectures available for students to download on iTunes. "I am honored to be selected as faculty of the year and grateful to my fellow faculty members who voted me to this position and especially to my students who have made my career at ACC such a rewarding experience," Broome said. Broome has been an active member on numerous committees at the college as well as the Colorado Community College System's State Faculty Curriculum Committee. He has published more than 20 academic articles and several books, including "Dog Soldier Justice: The Ordeal of Susanna Alderdice in the Kansas Indian War" and "Custer into the West."Born in Pueblo, Broome earned his bachelor's degree from Colorado State University at Pueblo, his master's degree from Baylor University and his doctorate degree in philosophy from University of Colorado at Boulder. Prior to coming to ACC, Broome worked as a detention counselor with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department and as the treatment director and chaplain for the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in Denver.
