Split Time, July 3, 2010: Quantity or Quality? Coley Stickels Talks About His Low-Volume Approach

Posted: 05 Jul 2010 12:13 AM PDT

PHOENIX, Arizona, July 3. PART two of the coaching philosophy topic on Split Time features Coach Coley Stickels of Lake Oswego Swim Club, who believes his low-volume approach is effective for all swimmers, even distance specialists.

There are two streams of thought when it comes to the amount of volume swimmers need to do in practice. For decades we've seen swimmers succeed in a "more swimming is better," system. High volume programs have influenced many coaches today. But there is another train of thought that, "less pool training is more." July 3, 2010 Great interviews, Garrett. It is great to see and hear the different philosophies. I tend to agree with Coley's thoughts a little more, and agree with his ideas about trying to keep kids in the sport longer. Different philosophies both produce great results!
